This past May I was fortunate enough to go on the trip of a lifetime to take a 10 day workshop in South Africa! Since I was a kid I have wanted to go on safari and here, finally, at 70 I was going to do it! What an adventure! My heart is still in that beautiful country. While we only saw one small part of the country it was nothing like I could have imagined. One of the highlights was stopping at Stony Point, which is one of their penguin colonies. The reference photo for this piece is not actually from my trip (yet!) but from a photo I took while visiting our local zoo with my grandchildren. We have our own South Africa penguins. I will be painting the penguins from Stony Point.
